HISTORY
Professional Yoga Therapy™ Studies is an adaptive, medical yoga therapy continuing education program built on the unique methods of founder and therapist Ginger Garner, and was designed exclusively for health care professionals and yoga therapists wanting to study yoga therapy as a rehabilitative science and method for whole living. Ginger gave birth to the program over seven years ago and for the last 15 years has been developing the Professional Yoga Therapy™ method.
Since that time, we have welcomed hundreds of licensed health care professionals into its program. The first graduating class of Professional Yoga Therapists (PYT) occurred in February 2008. Each year PYT™S accepts a class of about 30 students, each with their own clinical specialty and professional medical license.
The Certification program takes a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 4 years to complete, depending on the dedication and time each student has to spend on the curriculum. PYTS coursework was written and formatted for the busy medical professional, so all coursework can be completed at the student’s own pace within a four year time frame. This format simplifies the process of finishing the Certification.
Pursuing Certification through the PYT™ program or a Clinical specialty fits into your busy lifestyle as a health care professional and as a result, Ginger has designed programming which does not require more than a week’s absence at a time.
Entry into any program requires that students are licensed health care professionals with yoga experience. For example, an RYT200 or RYT500 may find that they are adequately prepared to enter into the program. The Certification program requires 2 weekends and 2 separate weeks to complete while clincial specialties usually take anywhere from 2-5 days to complete. The Certification tract student can take up to 4 years to complete the program. See Matriculation Bylaws for graduation requirements.
